Local HighlightsBesides enjoying your own “Home on the Range,” here are a few of the local highlights:
Paint Mines Interpretive Park
Located near Calhan, features hiking trails filled with sights. Check out the rock formations painted by leaching minerals. Look for rabbits, foxes, pronghorn, and even owls.
Hike is easy. Open from dusk to dawn everyday. Not handicapped accessible and climbing is prohibited.
Directions: Take Calhan Highway/Yoder Road. Go past El Paso County Fairgrounds. At .6 miles, turn left on Paint Mines Road. Follow signs to trailhead.
El Paso County Fair
Every July, the fair comes to town. It is the big event, with daily themes and activities. For more information, visit www.elpasoco.com.
